Captain Ries

Dr. Stephen H. Ries, Captain, USN (Retired)

Prior to his retirement from the U.S. Navy in 1997, Dr. Ries served over 30 years as a surface warfare officer on many naval combatant and amphibious ships, and naval and joint military staffs. He has been an instructor at the U.S. Naval Academy and the executive assistant to the Chief of Naval Education and Training. After retirement, he was a full professor at the Joint Forces Staff College, where he taught Joint Professional Military Education, specialized in information operations and crisis action planning, edited and co-authored  The Joint Staff Officer’s Guide, and conducted research on the development and assessment of organizational structures.
