Experiences:
There were so many good times on the Sumter they bring back memories,
although I too enjoyed the equator crossing, only I was a shellback at the
time and recalled my first crossing in 61. Since locating this web site, I
remember Wolley, Wilfong and George (32 years ago) as we all worked together
both in the MER and in A Div. I also remember we spent a great deal of time
at sea, as I recall it was about 110 days on the line up north with the 3rd
Marines onboard, 80 some days straight. R&R was great and so was the return
to Long Beach in November 72. Hello to all the engineering gang and feel
free to send me an email.

Experiences to remember:
I reported to Norfolk, VA for Pre-Commission Training after
which we all went to Philadelphia for the Commissioning in June 1970. From the
East coast we went to the West coast via So. Carolina, Jamaica, Puerto Rico,
The Panama Canal and Acapulco. After that I thought "I'm on the right ship"...
then we were off on our 1st West Pac. After three of those (with some great
experiences and friends I'm still in touch with) we were reassigned to the
East Coast. The trip through the canal w/ our families and cars was fun and it
must have been a sight to see.
